• Vanishing Giants              (5 min. | English)  

Synopsis: The filmmaker Mike Pandey recalls witnessing the shocking predicament of a 25-year-old elephant that was brutally assaulted in custody till it developed severe gangrene and septicaemia. On enquiring why the elephant was not administered medicine, Pandey was met with a stoic, "Such animals always die in captivity. It is tradition." This film was substantial in bringing legislation to stop the traditional methods of elephant capture in India. The disturbing documentary depicting the cruel and inhuman treatment meted out to an imprisoned elephant leading to his eventual death has earned Mike Pandey the covetous Green Oscar award for the third time. He is also  the first film maker from Asia to get Green Oscar first time and also only film maker to get it three times. 

• Faith Revisited                (12 min. | Hinglish)

Synopsis: Nature Worship in India dates back thousands of years. This internationally reverred film focuses on drawing the world's attention to the fact that we owe our very existence to Nature, and her various elements. All forms of life, that spring from Mother Nature's womb, are essential for the functioning of the web of life. Conservation of the environment through nature worship is very important and practised widely across India. This film brings to light the simple and uncomplicated customs prevalent in India that follow this beautiful idea. 

• Vindhyan Scourge        (30 minutes | Hindi) 

   

Synopsis: The film is about the experiences of the Director in the Vindhyan range of sub district Marihan in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. The film explore the facts and reasons behind the loss of forests and wildlife in forests of Mirzapur District in context to prevailing social conditions and challenges in India. So far socio-conomic problems were seen different from environment but this film will show you, confuse you, motivate you to think...It took more than 2 years to complete this film.

• The Last Dance                   (12 min.  | Hindi) 

Under the law, the Indian sloth bear is entitled to the same protection as the tiger. Yet crimes against it are committed openly across India as bears are made to dance. By venturing on an undercover operation and witnessing the surrender of a dancing bear, the film seeks to show how this crime can be brought to an end. 

•  The Miracle Water Village     (12 min. | English)

As the world reels under the threat of unrelenting climate change, erratic monsoons and fast depleting groundwater reserves, The Miracle Water Village narrates the inspirational story of impoverished farming community in India that reversed its fortunes through its visionary model of water management.

Lying in one of the worst drought-prone regions of India, the village of Hiware Bazar battled many decades of sparse rain and failed crops. However, 20 years ago, the entire village came together to script a silent revolution by designing a rainwater-harvesting model that saved every drop of the scanty rain they received. Today, the village is literally an oasis in the middle of the desert, boasting of bumper harvests, dairy co-operatives, millionaire families and visionary farmers.

Lets Contribute!

From where should I begin, what should I write,

What can I give to the reader

more entertaining, more informative

that can create awareness about environment,

or else am I myself aware to create an impact?

I was going through those thoughts
when decided to write in the Eco One blog. 

I am not an environmentalist, nor a social reformer

or even a student of environment.

I find myself an aimless youth like most of the youth

whom I had known closely in the present times

When I think of aim, I find aim is nothing but

a motivation, a belief to bring change be it is 

meant for self, community, society and 

as it goes even fractionally.

Being a student of such a institution which was established

on the pillar of ‘Karma’ and ‘Dana’ or sacrifice by Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviyaji

who himself was a environmentalist chairperson of Ganga Mahasabha had himself said,

बिना कई लोगों के मिले कोई कार्य नहीं हो सकता... लोग आपस में मिलकर तभी कार्य कर सकते है

जब उनमें परस्पर विश्वास हो |

We should have motivation and firm belief that we can bring a change.

Being a motivated and having belief is only half a distance covred and giving this motivation and belief a direction to flow is the most important part.

ENVIRONMENT.......... How much and how can we contribute to it?

A dumb question.. everything we do and how we do behave in our everyday life affects the environment.

So, the answer to how can and how much is the limit is the sky.

From efficient utilization of water and power in our day to day life, reduction in the  use of plastic bags to plantation of tree, there is a wide scope in how can and how much we can contribute.

Environment meant to our past generation...

they lived, co existed, and prospered, 
and kept it clean and transfer it
to us as a legacy and heritage.

It would be irresponsible for us if we would

not be able to transfer the most valued heritage

the same to our future generation if not improvised. 

Next time when you open the tap,

switch on the lights and use plastic bags

think of that fraction of change you can bring and

about the legacy you have got keping in mind that it is not all your,

you have to share and transfer it.

ECO MANIA I

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 20TH FEBRUARY, 2012 

SHOW THE CREATIVITY INSIDE YOU!

It is to inform that there would be several competitions to be organized by Eco One which are described as follows. The theme for all the competition is ‘Let’s Make Our Campus Clean’.

1. POWER OF WORDS (Slogan Writing)

Slogans of not more than four lines in Hindi or English. The slogans shall be written in such a manner to motivate the students for keeping the campus clean, use less plastic, no spitting, no smoking etc or any topic the participants can think of related to the topic. The selected slogans may be used for future campaigns of Eco One.  

Three Entries per participant allowed. 

2. DRISHYA DISHA (Poster Making Competition)

The posters can be digital or handmade but should be designed by the participants himself. The theme shall be same. The posters can be made in such a manner to motivate the students for keeping the campus clean, use less plastic, no spitting, no smoking etc or any topic the participants can think of related to the topic. The selected posters will be used to motivate the students by placing in canteen, library, hostel notice boards etc. Please write your name and course and contact details on back side of the poster.

Three Entries per participant allowed. 

3. SHOOT IT! (Free Photography Competition)

The photographs could be taken using mobile camera, digital camera, analog camera or SLR can be submitted. The photographs should show the environmental problems in campus like waste management, deforestation, biomass burning, plastic burning etc or any issue the photographer may think which should be a matter of environmental concern in the BHU campus.

No limit for entry per participant.

4. KABAAD SE JUGAAD (Best Out of Waste)

Make stuff out of materials which is usually considered as waste but a simple engineering can make it a usable thing or household decorative. Project models also eligible. There is no limit to creativity…. Lets make the best out of waste. Group Entry allowed.

No limit for entry per participant.

 How to submit?

The entries for slogan writing and photography competition shall be submitted online by sharing on 'Wall' of Eco One Facebook Page (url: http://facebook.com/GreenBHU). 

For participants who  doesn't  have  facebook profile can email their entry to youngrgsc@gmail.com. Please write your name, course and year with your entries.

The entries for Poster Making and Best Out of Waste shall be submitted to Hostel Ambassadors. For the contact list of Hostel Ambassadors please visit the 'Reach Us' page. 

The last date to submit your entries is 20th February, 2012. for any query one is welcome to contact us. 

Judgement

The judgement for best entries would be done by a committee constituting Wardens, Teaching staff and any other persons appointed by Eco One Management Council. The decision of judges would be final. The entries once submitted to Eco One would be property of Eco One and can be used for useful purposes giving due credit.

इको वन ने नम भूमि दिवस पर विंढम फाल को दी नयी जिंदगी!

गांधीजी ने कहा है... ‘सबसे पहले वे आपकी उपेक्षा करते है, फिर आप पर हँसते है, फिर आपसे लड़ते है और फिर आप जीत जाते है|’

 विंढम फाल की सफाई करते इको वन के कार्यकर्ता

आज का दिन यानि 2 फ़रवरी विश्व नमभूमि दिवस के रूप में विश्वभर में मनाया जाता है | यह दिन प्रकृति और पर्यावरण के हिसाब से बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण दिन है, क्योंकि हम सभी जानते हैं कि “जल ही जीवन है” और नमभूमि धरती पर जल को विनियमित करने में सहायक होती हैI इस दिन कि महत्ता को समझते हुए इको वन ने इस दिन बहुत ही खास तरीके से मनाया | आज इको वन ने परिसर के छात्रों के साथ परिसर के पास स्थित “विंढम फाल” की  सफाई की | आज यानि 2 फ़रवरी को दोपहर 1:30 बजे परिसर में स्थित लेक्चर थियेटर काम्प्लेक्स पर इको वन के सारे कार्यकर्ता एकत्रित हुए, जिनकी संख्या 100 से भी ज्यादा थी जिसे देखकर इको वन के सदस्य भी दंग रह गए, क्योंकि इको वन ने 60-70 कार्यकर्ताओं के आने की ही उम्मीद की थी | कार्यकर्ता इस कार्यक्रम को लेकर बहुत उत्साहित नज़र आ रहे थे | दोपहर के 2:00 बजे  इको वन की टोली विंढम की तरफ बढ़ने लगी | परिसर में इतने छात्र एक साथ शायद पहली बार ही दिखे | इको वन की टोली बरकछा के विन्ध्य पहाडियों को पार करते हुए विंढम पहुची | इको वन के उत्साह को देखकर लोग दंग थे | इको वन विंढम फाल पहुच कर पांच टोलियो में विभाजित हो गया | हर टोली का अपना निर्धारित स्थान था, जहाँ पर उन्हें सफाई का कार्य करना था | इको वन के कार्यकर्ताओं ने अपनी जिम्मेदारी को समझते हुए अपने काम को पूरी निष्ठा और लगन के साथ किया | विंढम फाल में फैले कूड़ा करकट व गंदगी को साफ़ करते हुए बी.एच.यू. में एक नए युग का आगाज भी कर दिया | बी.एच.यू. के छात्रों के इस अभियान को वन विभाग ने भी खुले दिल से स्वागत किया | इस मौके पर वन विभाग के अधिकारी और पुलिस फोर्स भी मौजूद रही | उन्होने न सिर्फ छात्रों का उत्साहवर्धन किया बल्कि उन्होंने छात्रों के इस अभियान में मदद भी की | छात्रों ने करीब-करीब एक घंटे तक सफाई का कार्य पूरे जोश और उत्साह के साथ किया और विंढम फाल की रूप रेखा ही बदल कर रख दी | छात्रों का उत्साह तब चरम पर पहुँच गया जब मिर्ज़ापुर-कैमूर क्षेत्र के प्रभागीय वन अधिकारी श्री मनीष मित्तल जी भी छात्रों का उत्साह बढाने विंढम फाल पहुंच गए | छात्रों को संबोधित करते हुए श्री मित्तल ने कहा कि छात्रों ने अपने दम पर इतने कम समय में इस तरह के कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया ये अपने आप में काबिले तारीफ है | उन्होंने नमभूमि के फाएदे बताये और नमभूमि दिवस मनाने का मकसद भी छात्रों को समझाया | उन्होंने इको वन को इस साल के नमभूमि दिवस के विषय के बारे में बताया जो की ‘नमभूमि और पर्यटन’ है | उन्होंने ये भी कहा कि विंढम फाल भले ही पूर्ण रूप से नमभूमि में नहीं आती पर नमभूमि दिवस पर मिर्ज़ापुर में इस तरह के अभियान के लिए इससे बेहतर पर्यटन स्थल दूसरा नहीं हो सकता था |  उन्होंने कहा इस तरह के अभियान उस वक्त अवश्य किये जाने चाहिए जब पर्यटन का मौसम होता है और पर्यटक बाहर से आते है जिससे उनलोगों तक भी ये सन्देश पहुंचे| उन्होंने इस अभियान के लिए छात्रों को सराहा और उन्हें शुभकामनायें दी | उन्होने कहा कि परोपकार दो तरह से हो सकता है, एक वो जो लोगों के द्वारा लोगों के लिए किया जाये और एक वो जो हमारे पर्यावरण के लिए किया जाये I उन्होंने कहा कि नौजवान इस देश कि सबसे बड़ी शक्ति हैं और अगर नौजवान इस तरह के पहल लेता  है तो पर्यावरण कभी दूषित नहीं हो पाएगा! 

सफाई अभियान में जुटी छात्राएं. सभी कार्यकर्ताओं में 35 छात्राएं थी 

छात्रगन वन अधिकारी महोदय को अपने बीच पाकर बहुत उत्साहित थे और सवालों पर सवाल किये जा रहे थे | वन अधिकारी महोदय ने भी छात्रों के हर एक सवाल का जवाब बड़े ही दिलचस्पी से दिया | उनकी मुलाकात करीब 30 मिनट चली जिसमें छात्रों ने उनसे काफी ज्ञान अर्जित की और मिर्ज़ापुर में वनों की स्थिति और वन विभाग द्वारा लिए गए कदमों की जानकारी विस्तृत रूप से लिया |

विंढम फाल की सफाई और सुरक्षा को लेकर छात्रों में काफी चिंता थी और उन्होंने श्री मित्तल से जब इसके बारे में पूछा तो उन्होंने वादा किया कि विंढम फाल में जल्द ही कूड़ेदानों की व्यवस्था की जाएगी और लोगों को जागरूक करने के लिए भी यथायोग्य इंतज़ाम किये जाएंगे | उन्होंने ये भी जानकारी दी की बहुत जल्द विंढम फाल में पर्यटकों की सुरक्षा को और सुदृढ़ बनाने के लिए खतरे की सूचना वाले बोर्ड और फिसलन से बचने के लिए लोहे की जंजीरें, तैरनेवाले रस्सी  तथा टाएर भी लगायी जाएंगी.. उन्होंने बताया की वन विभाग भी विंढम फाल को उन्नत करना चाहती है पर मानव संसाधनों की कमी के चलते पूरी तरह से सक्षम नहीं है| उन्होंने विंढम फाल की नियमित साफ़ सफाई के लिए नगरपालिका से सहयोग लेने की बात भी कही |

श्री मित्तल से छात्रों ने आधे घंटे से भी ज्यादा समय तक बातचीत की और अपने सवाल पूछे | इसी मौके पर एम्.एस.सी मिटटी एवं जल संरक्षण की छात्रा शाची राय ने डी. एफ. ओ. के समक्ष अपनी स्वनिर्मित कविता भी सनाई जो कुछ इस प्रकार है:

मिट्टी हमारी तनहा है जहा वृक्ष नहीं... वो वृक्ष भी वहाँ तनहा है जहाँ पानी की एक बूँद नहीं... पानी तो है कुछ जगह थोडा थोडा... पर क्या फायदा जब वो साफ नहीं.. 

 इस कार्यक्रम की समाप्ति 4.30 बजे हुई जिसके बाद सारे छात्र थके होने के बावजूद बरकछा के पहाडियों को बड़े ही जोश और उत्साह के साथ पार करते हुए अपने परिसर में वापस पहुचे |

बी.एच.यू. दक्षिणी परिसर के कोर कमेटी के सदस्य प्रोफ. श्री जी. पी. सिंह ने फोन पर इको वन के कार्यकर्ताओं को बधाइयाँ दी और आगे भी इस तरह के काम को करते रहने के लिए आशीर्वाद दिया.
